Course Description
Workplace impairment among healthcare professionals poses a serious risk to patient
safety, team performance, and organizational integrity. Impairment may result from
substance use disorders, mental health conditions, fatigue, stress, or medical illnesses
that compromise a professional’s ability to safely perform job duties.
This course provides Florida healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools
needed to recognize signs of impairment, understand legal and ethical responsibilities,
respond appropriately to concerns, and support a culture of safety and accountability.
Evidence-based practices, Florida regulations, and current research are incorporated
throughout the course.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define workplace impairment and its impact on healthcare delivery.
- Identify behavioral, physical, and clinical signs of impairment in healthcare
professionals. - Discuss the effects of impairment on patient safety and quality of care.
- Explain legal and ethical responsibilities related to impairment in Florida healthcare
