First Biennium Renewal Rules (Florida Board of Nursing)
1. Newly Licensed by Examination (First-Time License in Florida)
RNs and LPNs who received their license by examination during the current biennium are exempt from general CEU requirements.
However, they must complete the following required courses:
- 2 hours: Prevention of Medical Errors
- 2 hours: Florida Laws and Rules
- 2 hours: Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace
- 2 hours: Human Trafficking
- 1 hour: HIV/AIDS
2. Newly Licensed by Endorsement (Licensed in Another State, Endorsed in Florida)
If you were licensed in another state by examination within the current biennium, you are also exempt from general CEU hours.
You must still complete the same required courses listed above (Medical Errors, Laws and Rules, Recognizing Impairment, Human Trafficking, HIV/AIDS).
3. Licenses Issued for Less than 24 Months
If your initial Florida license was issued for less than the full two-year biennium, you are required to complete 1 hour of CE for each month the license was valid.
These hours must include the mandatory courses listed above.
